    In this Nature ‘Science and inequality’ special issue we look at what science can say about inequality as a phenomenon, and the way inequality plays out within the science workforce. Economist Branko Milanovic uses historical data to follow the ebb and flow of inequality on a timescale of centuries. Mike Savage tackles the question of what ‘class’ actually means. And in two News Features we look in detail at what inequality means within science itself.
  • Building the 21st Century Scientist: (Nature, volume 523, nº7560, 16 july 2015)
    In a collaboration with Scientific American, Nature takes a look at modern movements in teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). By applying the principles of twenty-first-century learning, educators should be able to produce scientists better prepared for the modern, multidisciplinary workforce and a more science-literate populace in general.
  • Nature University Experiment: (Nature, volume 514, nº7522, 16 october 2014)
    Universities must evolve if they are to survive. This special issue of Nature on the theme ‘The university experiment’ examines the myriad ways in which universities around the world are trying to free themselves from old habits of thought, and to explore new ways of doing things. No one knows which of these experiments will produce the best-educated students or the greatest leaps in academic understanding (see leading article on page 273). But all share the sentiment that the twenty-first-century university could be strikingly different from the institutions of the past.
